The Monday Post (Part 2): Active Bumps

The Monday Post (Part 2): Active Bumps

Dojo & Mixed Tape # 7 is done.   Here are today's Workout Numbers:

Workout: Mixed Tape (7)
Total Workout Time: 35:45 (min/sec)
Average Heart Rate: 122bpm
Maximum Heart Rate: 136bpm
Total Time in Zone: Around 34 Minutes

The challenging thing about today's workout was that I was working with this:
Lesson Learned: Fist position is important when breaking boards.
Now, there are people that would freak out and make this a bigger deal than it is.  There are some people that this would completely turn them off of breaking boards or Martial Arts altogether.

For me, its a bruised/swollen knuckle.  Nothing more.  Nothing feels like its broken.  I haven't lost any mobility (other than my knuckle swells when I make a fist right now).  I treated this properly, using ICE (Ice, Compression, Elevation).  I did my workout, then continue as normal.  This is what I call an Active Bump.  Its what happens when you try something a little different and you find out the wrong way to do it.

In this case, I tried breaking a Brown Belt Level Break Board with a closed fist. I hit it with the wrong angle.  I also didn't put a snap into the punch like I should have.

It  not going to stop me from trying again at some point.  Its also not going to put everything else to a screeching halt.  It is what it is: an Active Bump and an opportunity to learn something & apply what I aleady know.   All part of Owning This Day.... the Good, the Bad & the Ugly.

If you take the time to look at your Active Bumps in the right way, you will continue the movement to.....
