The Friday Post: Starting The Weekend Right

The Friday Post: Starting The Weekend Right

On the Own This Day Group on DDP Yoga Group, I put out the Challenge to Start the Weekend Right and take a picture of you doing your best position.  I was inspired by Christina Russell ending their family with a picture of her doing a Forearm Stand.  Believe me, Forearm Stand is not an easy thing to do.

So, after busting out Day 10 of my Mixed Tape Streak, I went to do a Black Crow to a Head Stand.

Here are the numbers from the workout:

Workout: Mixed Tape (11)
Total Workout Time: 35:25 (min/sec)
Average Heart Rate: 125bpm
Maximum Heart Rate: 144bpm
Total Time in the Zone: Around 33 Minutes

Along with hitting one of my better positions, I also tried to take another strong pose to the next level: from Wrap 'n Burn to Bird of Paradise

Its not there yet (with the leg locked out).  But, just like getting Black Crow into a Handstand, I will get there!  All it takes is working at it little by little. There are some positions that it took years for people like DDP to hit.  It didn't stop him from continuing to getting better every day.

Another wise person, Jim Mabes, said: "It is not about whether you win or lose. It is whether you accept the challenge."

If you look at every day as a new change to accept the challenge, you will....

The Thursday Post: - / +

The Thursday Post: - / +

Yet another Thursday in the books, #OwnThisDay True Believers!   Spring has finally sprung!  We've got warm weather in the Dakotas, no snow, and things are coming together!

Today was a Kids Judo/Karate Day at the Dakota Budokan.  That meant that I got to train with my son, Morgan, who is always got his wheels turning!  Not only do I get to share something with him that has been an important part of who I am, we also get to talk about how  he's interacting with people at school.  You know you're doing something right when your son uses  what you talk about with his friends at school.

The example to this is a friend of his that he currently has Choir with.  This is someone that he has known since we moved down to Sioux Falls.  His friend has a tendency, as most kids that age do, to be dramatic.  This friend was convinced that another boy in their class was "out to get him".  Morgan talked to him about Living Life @ 90% and to Own This Day the best he can.  That seemed to turn on a light for him.

This shows that Owning This Day not only will help you bring out the positive, it also affects the people around you.  People pay attention to Positive!

Another example is the whole Nancy Grace Interview that Dallas had.  She did everything that she could to make it as negative and dramatic as possible.  Dallas, being the Exceptional Teacher that he is, kept it real and positive.  He wasn't going to go down that road, no matter how Ms. Grace wanted to otherwise.

On another note, Mixed Tape Day 10 is done.  I didn't get to the Level 1 workout I wanted to today, but tomorrow is another day to focus on that goal to hit both Mixed Tape & Level 1.

     Here are the numbers:
Workout: Mixed Tape (10)
Total Workout Time: 35:35
Average Heart Rate: 127bpm
Maximum Heart Rate: 148bpm
Total Time in the Zone: Around 33 Minutes - had some spikes on the high side today.

Plus, I got confirmation that I will be meeting up with one Mike "The Maestro" Stroeh on Sunday to help him with his Level 1 Workout Certification Tape. In all, this weekend is shaping up to be a High Activity Weekend!

Bringing out the Positive to balance out the Negative will help you....
